Wood Colonial Column Specifications
|
Turncraft manufactures a full selection of Coloinial design columns in a variety of wood species. Diameters ranging from 6" to 24" in two-inch increments. Heights range from 4' to 30' in two-foot increments. (Restrictions apply in diameter/height ratios. Turncraft Architectural offers a wider range of diameter -- 4" through 36".
On tapered Colonial columns, flutes start 9" from the top of the column shaft. For columns 6" through 20" diameter, the flutes end 7" from the top of the base. 22" and 24" columns, the flutes end 4" from the base. On non-tapered shafts, the flutes and 4" from the cap and 4" from the base.
Custom flute lengths are available on request, for the same price as standard fluted columns! If the column is using Ornamental Capitals, the fluting is adjusted to accomodate the capital height and correct trimming at the shaft neck ring or fillet.
Shaft lengths on wood columns are shorter than the overall height. The cap and base are attached to the ends of the shaft, providing the additional height.

Since split columns are no longer load bearing, installers may be able to trim the inside of the caps slightly to allow for small increases of inside sizes.
Polyurethane caps are molded products, and may be subject to size variation. Please use these values as guides only. Turncraft will not be responsible for installation difficulties arising from accuracy or errors in our specifications listed.

On 14" and larger non-tapered columns, the flute length will vary based upon the different cap/base heights for each diameter column.
The flutes will end 4" from the base and 4" from the cap. To determine the flute length, you may subtract the cap/base from the overall height, and then subtract 8", giving you the exact flute length.
Turncraft can flute any wood column for the exact height you require, at the standard fluted column price!

* For wood columns, inside sizes are based upon the inside diameter of the polyurethane cap. Other caps (wood and ornamental capitals) have different sizes and these numbers will not apply.
