Capitals and Bases for Wood Colonial Tapered Columns
All paint grade wood shafts and Caps and Bases are fully immersed in Wootreats MB water-repellent to provide maximum protection against mold, mildew, staining and decaying fungi. This also improves the dimensional stability and aids in the control of shrinking, swelling and warping, providing you with a stable, reliable product that meets all current and proposed government standards.

Our 6" through 12" Colonial Columns are equipped with Poly-U-RimO Caps & Bases, specially designed to provide increased durability -- no joint separation -- for easy installation. The 14" and larger Colonial Columns come with standard polyurethane Caps & Bases. Wood caps and bases are available for interior use or for matching existing installations.

Colonial Cap and Base for Tapered Wood Columns
Colonial polyurethane cap and base are specially designed to provide increased durability. They are load bearing,and contain no wood components to warp, rot or decay.

Finger-Jointed Pine cap and base are treated with Woodtreat MB. When used for exterior installations, an aluminum plinth (below) is required for warranty coverage.

Aluminum Plinths

Aluminum plinths offer an extra level of protection for columns using bases in exterior applications. They provide an excellent moisture barrier between wood parts and decking, and maintain the necessary ventilation through the column center.

Priming and Asphalting

Priming is applied in two coats, using a specially formulated primer developed exclusively for Turncraft. The column is sanded before each coat. Asphalt coating of the shaft interior is applied on the bottom three feet of the shaft.
